Meet the Netgear XAVB5004, a unique device in the crowded power over Ethernet market. The XAVB5004 kit consists of a Powerline XAV5001 (as seen in the Netgear XAVB5001 kit) and the XAV5004; a POE enabled, four port switch for your entertainment room.
Setup is simple, place the XAV5001 near your router or homes central network switch and connect with an Ethernet cable. Connect the XAV5004 to the power point in your entertainment room and voila. Complete, well after you setup POE on the two devices. No additional cables or wi-fi setup required. The XAVB5004 kit can be used with an existing installation of Netgear XAVB5001.
The main advantage of the Netgear XAVB5004 over alternative POE setups for entertainment areas is the simplicity. Generally a setup would include two POE adapters plus a switch for your home entertainment equipment and consoles, however the XAVB removes the second POE adapter and integrates it into the media room switch! This not only saves you money, it also saves on bulky power connectors in a typically overloaded environment.
