Faster WAN performance
 
et greater performance over a wide area network (WAN) with FileMaker Server 12. Finding data can be up to 40% faster as FileMaker Server sends less data across the network with fewer round trips. In addition, when searching in a field formatted as a value list or when filtering information in a most portals, data will normally be retrieved in less than a second.
 
64-bit application
 
Now a 64-bit application, FileMaker Server 12 can have more memory available to run even faster, especially with large databases or a large number of client connections. By temporarily storing more data in memory and only writing changes to the disk, FileMaker Server 12 processes data faster and more efficiently and reduces the possibility of file corruption.

Backing up large data sets using FileMaker Server 12 is faster and more efficient than ever. Once you have a baseline backup, only files that have changed in your solution are backed up again. When storing data externally using the enhanced container fields in FileMaker Pro 12, only the container data that has changed is backed up.
FileMaker Server 12 introduces new Progressive Backup, which tracks the bits that have changed in your database, bundles and applies them to the baseline backup. Choose how often you want to run Progressive Backup as frequently as one minute, up to every 60 minutes. Now you can rest assured that even data that is accidentally deleted can be recovered from the most recent backup.

FileMaker Server 12 installs what you need to use PHP including the PHP engine, the FileMaker API for PHP, sample code, and documentation. Use the latest version of PHP that FileMaker, Inc. has certified. Windows users need PHP 5.3.8 and Mac users need PHP 5.3.6.

Compatibility

FileMaker Server 12 and FileMaker Server 12 Advanced only support FileMaker Pro 12 and FileMaker Go 12 databases. Databases from older versions of FileMaker Pro will need to be converted to FileMaker Pro 12 in order to be hosted using FileMaker Server 12 or FileMaker Server 12 Advanced.

Networking:

TCP/IP; FileMaker Server 12 is limited to 250 simultaneous FileMaker Pro/Pro Advanced client connections and FileMaker Server 12 Advanced does not limit the number of simultaneous FileMaker Pro/Pro Advanced client connections; each FileMaker Pro/Pro Advanced client requires a licensed copy of FileMaker Pro/Pro Advanced 12.

Web browser requirements:

To use a database shared with Instant Web Publishing, Windows web users need Microsoft Internet Explorer version 9.0 or 8.0, Firefox 9.0 or Safari 5.1. On the Mac, web users need Safari 5.1 or Firefox 9.0. These versions are the minimum requirement. This software may also work with later versions certified by FileMaker, Inc.
