Lightning

Ive been told that improving the hard drive, from a 5400rpm unit to a 7200rpm unit in a laptop increses the speed of the system by a huge margin. I did this and it certainly was the case! So I applied the same rule to my PC using WD Raptors. I have run two of these in Raid 0 as an operating system drive on my main PC since mid 2006. They make some noise when reading/writing and make a bit more heat than slower drives but all that is to be expected at this high level of performance. These drives are much faster than anticipated and very quiet at idle. The seek times and sustained data rates of these things are unmatched and notice this every time I use the computer, everything happens so quickly! Reliability is simply not a problem. The fact that these run SATA 150 rather than SATA II 300 is not a limiting factor at all period. The current and even older Raptors are much faster than any SATA II 300 drive in the market today (14-03-08) Best performance upgrade Ive ever done.
