ASUS IPMI Card- ASMB2, Talks to All!!
IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) is the standard for intelligent interface management that offers cross-platform interface to monitor system status such as temperature, voltage, and fans etc., and MIS could be informed via event notification.
Evolving into IPMI1.5 from 1.0 in 2001, interfaces were added for LAN Serial/ Modem, PCI management bus etc, along with alerting function. In the 2004 Intel Developer Forum, Intel released IPMI2.0, which provides IT customers with higher reliability, console redirection, supports modular blade server, and is backwards compatible with version s1.0 and 1.5.
Through the IPMI protocol, MIS is capable of monitoring the running status components via LAN or Serial LAN, such as CPU, fan speed, system temperature, voltage and etc. MIS can also configure critical values to monitored items. Thus when abnormal situation occurs, MIS is notified by email or SNMP trap Additionally, remote monitor, and system reply function via hardware and software cooperation are integrated, letting MIS to discover real-time system status, and enable login, shut down or server reboot.
The ASUS IPMI2.0 management card, coded as ASMB2, which supports all new generation servers, employing the mini PCI interface and slim dimension, ASMB2 conserve space significantly. It allows remote SEL (system event log) reading when power is off, monitor and encryption protection while logged in, and remote power on/ off function. ASUS own unique technology, in particular, offers ASUS P505 PDA phone, easily reduce the cost of manpower.
