TDK discs are recorded in units conforming to Orange Book Part II standard and can be played back in CD-DA and CD-ROM player units. TDK's recordable CDs are guaranteed for playback stability for over one million playbacks with life expectancy assured for over 200 years.

Technical Specifications

TDK's recordable CDs represent a significant breakthrough in optical media engineering being compatible with all types of writing systems. Similarly, TDK's CD-Rs exceed the Orange Book Part III standard specifications. With data accuracy a prime objective, TDK Life on Record engineers met the challenges that high-speed CD-R writers produce by increasing the sensitivity of the recording layer.

High speed recording results increased rotational velocity that translates into shortened laser radiation times, this causes the recording energy per unit time to be reduced. Under these conditions, serious writing errors will occur if a CD-R does not possess sufficient recording sensitivity. By the development of special cyanine dye technology, TDK Life on Record have successfully produced a recording layer that delivers maximum sensitivity and enhanced responsiveness to the laser's writing beam.

Not only have TDK Life on Record advanced the optical-chemical characteristics of their recordable CDs, but they have also improved the mechanical/dynamic characteristics to ensure stability of the disc when its rotating at velocities up to 2200 r.p.m. Any flaws in the disc's mechanical characteristics can cause it to become unstable and develop write/read errors. By ensuring an extremely high standard of tolerances in the development of the nickel based stamper, uniformity throughout the disc is assured. As a result, TDK's recordable CDs are distinguished by exceptional low error rates across the entire surface of the disc. Additionally, all TDK recordable CDs have a highly protective layer that protects the disc's recording and reflective layer from moisture and heat.
