The Ruby ExDrive Kit features the new generation of eSATA hard drive enclosures using native eSATA interface for the highest possible performance. The Ruby drive enclosure, small enough to fit easily in the palm of your hand, is designed to protect your hard drive against rough handling and vibration with a light weight cast aluminum housing and patented drive cushion to absorb shock up to a 3 foot drop. The Ruby drive enclosure incorporates the SATA direct interface design that provides an eSATA connector for high speed eSATA interface, as well as an additional SATA connector for using as a removable drive cartridge via an optional Ruby drive cradle installed inside a 3.5" drive bay of any computer.

Designed for accommodating any 2.5" SATA hard drive up to 9.5mm height, the Ruby ExDrive can connect to any system via eSATA, eSATAp (eSATA USB combo port) or USB 3.0 interface. Cable options are available to enable the Ruby ExDrive to be powered directly from eSATAp or USB port. With the new 6G drive enclosure, the Ruby ExDrive supports reliable connection of any 6G SATA III hard drive and ensures maximum data throuput. Drives contained inside the durable and heat-resistant Ruby enclosure is even capable of booting Operating Systems through an eSATA port on a motherboard or add-in card.

The Ruby ExDrive kit can connect to standard eSATA port, eSATA / USB hybrid port (EUHP) that appears on many new Notebook systems, USB 3.0 or 2.0 port using an optional USB 3.0 - eSATAp adapter. Depending on the implementation by the Notebook manufacturer, the eSATA performance can be as fast as 6 Giga bits per sec, almost 15 times the speed of USB 2.0.

By connecting to the eSATA / USB hybrid port (EUHP) with the Addonics eSATAp cable, the Ruby ExDrive can be directly powered from the Notebook with high speed eSATA connection - the combination of true portability and fastest drive performance similar to internal hard drive. The Ruby ExDrive can also be directly powered from USB port when using the Addonics eSATAp cable in conjunction with the USB3.0 - eSATAp adapter.

* When using 6G hard drive or SSD, the standard Ruby enclosure may encountered connectivity problem or degraded data transfer with some drives in combination with certain computers. The 6G drive enclosure or Ruby drive kit is recommended when installing 6G HDD/SSD. In the Drive Cartridge application, the Ruby drive cradle (the unit that mounts inside the drive bay) will also needs to be the 6G version in order to have reliable connection and maximum data throughput.
