The TS-1685 provides four 2.5 SSD slots dedicated for caching to increase
IOPS performance, and supports higher transfer speeds and reliability with
optional six M.2 SATA 6Gb/s SSDs. Using an SSD cache boosts overall system
performance, and is perfect for improving the overall workflow of random IOPS
demanding applications such as virtualization. QNAPs Qtier Technology empowers
the TS-1685 with Auto Tiering that further helps continuously optimize storage
efficiency across M.2 SSD, SSD, high-capacity SATA drives, and the optional PCIe
NVMe SSD with around-the-clock acceleration. Qtier now supports On Demand
Allocation Priority, providing customizable flexibility to arrange tiered

offers an option with a 550 watt power supply that is capable of powering an AMD
Radeon RX 480 graphics card for smooth GPU passthrough to virtual machines.

agent services have also been added to simplify system operations and

The TS-1685 is a comprehensive iSCSI/IP-SAN storage solution, and supports
VMware, Citrix, Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows Server 2012 R2, benefiting
flexible deployment and management in virtualization environments. The TS-1685
supports VMware VAAI and Microsoft ODX to increase performance by offloading
server loading for ESXi server and Hyper-V respectively, and supports QNAP
vSphere Client plug-in and QNAP SMI-S provider with enhanced operational
efficiency and management in virtualization applications.
Optimized performance for VMware Virtualization with
iSER
The TS-1685 supports the iSCSI Extensions for RDMA (iSER) protocol to boost
data transfer performance of the TS-1685 as VMware ESXi storage and to reduce
the CPU load of the ESXi server. iSER can provide up to 20% increased
performance, providing an essential tool to optimize demanding virtualization
applications.
Note: To create an iSER connection with VMware ESXi, both the server and NAS
require compatible Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro network cards (LAN-10G2SF-MLX,
LAN-40G2SF-MLX) and switches compatible with Mellanox or supporting PFC
(Priority Flow Control) configuration.
Integrated virtualization and container solutions
Virtualization Station allows you to host virtual machines (VM) on the
TS-1685 and access them via a web browser or VNC. It supports multiple operating
systems, fast VM creation, VM backup & restoration, VM import/export,
snapshot, and Device Management for centrally managing VMs. No longer
constrained by physical network performance, the Network & Virtual Switch
greatly increases data transfer between VMs, containers and NAS through the
internal interface. The TS-1685 also features Container Station, which
integrates LXC and Docker lightweight virtualization technologies. You can
operate multiple isolated Linux systems on the TS-1685 as well as download apps
from the built-in Docker Hub Registry. Containers Station also supports the QIoT

QRM+: Centralized management solution for networked computing
devices
QRM+ is QNAPs Centralized Remote Server Management solution designed for IT
teams. It provides a single-point solution to discover, map, monitor and manage
all of the critical computing devices (including servers, PCs, and thin clients)

or webcams to stream to DJ2 Live with high-speed intranet transmission, and
store all the videos on the private, secure, high-capacity TS-1685. It also

sync
The TS-1685 centrally stores data, logs and various files, and supports
SMB/CIFS, NFS, and AFP protocols for file sharing across Windows, Mac,
Linux/UNIX networks. Coupled with Qsync - a utility that turns a QNAP NAS into a
safe, high-capacity data center for file synchronization - any file uploaded to
the TS-1685 will be made available for all linked devices, such as computers,

Qfiling automates file organization - simply determine filing conditions, set a
schedule, and files will be organized and archived based on your settings. The
Qsirch full-text search tool features quick file searching and supports
thumbnail previews, content abstract, keyword hints, and more. Both Qfiling and
Qsirch provide huge productivity boosts that greatly reduce the time spent
looking for files on the NAS, allowing you to focus on other tasks.
Simplify email management with QmailAgent
Managing massive amounts of emails can be easier as QmailAgent helps you
centrally manage and switch between different email accounts. Besides composing,
reading and organizing emails, you can even directly attach files from the
TS-1685 when composing emails. The QmailClient companion app for iOS or Android
works alongside QmailAgent to provide convenient access to multiple email
accounts from your mobile devices. You can use QmailAgent together with Qsirch,
which supports searching through the .eml files stored on the TS-1685; or
quickly send emails to people and groups by using the Qcontactz app.

security
Surveillance Station is a professional network surveillance Video Management
System (VMS) that offers a user-friendly management interface, over 3,000
compatible IP camera models, and expandable IP camera channel licenses. It
supports real-time monitoring, video & audio recording and playback with a
wide range of customizable settings. You can use iOS or Android Vmobile app to
manage the monitored channels anytime and anywhere to safeguard your office
environment, or install the Vcam mobile app to turn your device into a network
camera to instantly record to your TS-1685. The TS-1685 offers 8 free IP camera
channels and you can expand up to 80 channels by purchasing additional
licenses.
Flexibly expand storage capacity
Besides attaching QNAP expansion enclosures, the TS-1685s storage capacity
can also be increased by using VJBOD. With VJBOD, the storage capacity of other
QNAP NAS* can be used as virtual disks that can be mounted as local disks on the
TS-1685 for shares, applications, or even creating another LUN. You can use the
QTS Storage Manager to easily handle NAS capacity expansion and storage
