DX510
Expansion Unit for Increasing Capacity of the Synology DiskStation
Synology DX510 delivers an effortless solution for volume expansion and data backup for selected Synology DiskStations. The DX510 smoothly scales the storage capacity of the Synology DiskStation by an additional 5 hard drives on the fly when firmly connected directly to the Synology DiskStation, ensuring a reliable expansion solution.
- Plug-n-use
- Hot-swappable HDD design
- Hibernation
- Managed from Synology DiskStation Manager 2.3
Volume Expansion & Backup
When running out of the hard drive capacity on the Synology DiskStation, the Synology DX510 provides an easy way to immediately scale capacity by an additional 5 hard drives. The RAID volume on the Synology DiskStation can be expanded directly without having to reformat the existing hard drives, ensuring the Synology DiskStation continues its service during the capacity expansion. When created as a separate volume, the Synology DX510 provides a great solution for backing up the Synology DiskStation.

Reliable Plug-n-use Design
The Synology DX510 is connected to the Synology DiskStation using an eSATA cable with custom-designed connectors on both ends, ensuring a reliable connection and maximum throughput. The eSATA 3.0 Gb/sec definition allows the hard drives in the connected Synology DX510 to operate as they are the internal ones of the Synology DiskStation.
Green & Easy to Manage
The HDD hibernation can be manually configured to take effect automatically when the system has been inactive for a period of time. This not only save energy but also extends the lifespan of the hard disk.
Synology DX510 is managed with the DiskStation firmware Synology DSM 2.3. No firmware installation is needed.

Synology offers 3 expansion units: DX510, DX5, and RX4. Each is designed for pairing with specific DiskStation/RackStation models. DX510 is specially designed for expanding DS1010+'s and DS710+'s capacity. DX5 targets at expanding DS509+s capacity. RX4 is specially designed for RS409+ and RS409RP+.
When connected to the models mentioned above, DX510/DX5/RX4 can be used either for expanding the volume of the server, or as an independent volume for backup or additional storage. However, when connected to DiskStations other than those mentioned above, DX510/DX5/RX4 might only be partially supported or not supported at all. Refer to the table below to see which DiskStation supports DX510/DX5/RX4:
