This "Y power-sharing" cable provides additional power to your drive from your computer, while continuing to use your drive's USB connection for data exchange and transfer*.

Note: This product requires your laptop to have two side-by-side USB ports, so it is not compatible with laptops with a single USB port on opposite sides (such as the MacBook Air).
