The LaCie 5big comes with everything you need to back up your office's computers. It includes three client licenses for Genie® Backup Manager Pro™ for Windows and three licenses for Intego® Backup Manager Pro™ for Mac (additional licenses can be purchased online). Install the included software on computers to be backed up, or simply use Time Machine™ or Windows Backup.
Offsite Backup for Ultra Security
You can even add offsite backup to your data protection strategy. Wuala lets you create backup jobs that back up a computer's folder onto the cloud. An employee accidentally deletes an important file or his hard drive fails? Regardless of your backup method – 3rd party software or Wuala – restore lost files in seconds and get employees back on track.
Automated NAS Backup
The LaCie 5big also takes the hassle and potential for human error out of backing itself up. You can replicate your LaCie 5big's storage onto an attached USB 3.0/2.0 hard drive, or vice-versa. Create automatic backup jobs tailored to each of your attached devices. You can also use your NAS to back up another NAS, whether it's on the local network or remote???. Even configure a nightly backup of your NAS onto a backup server in a completely different building.
Advanced Features for Small Business Rescue Utility
The 5big is the first product to feature LaCie's Rescue utility. This browser-based tool gives administrators a DVD-free way to reinstall or repair the NAS OS, and to recover from system failure. Using the included USB key, the browser-based LaCie Rescue allows you to install the OS on a diskless chassis. As a result, it's easy to replace all your NAS' disks at the same time, or set up a LaCie 5big that shipped without disks. In case of system failure, LaCie Rescue launches automatically to help you recover files from a damaged system via FTP, repair the OS, or completely restore the NAS to factory settings.
Enhanced Network Management
The LaCie 5big offers advanced network management. iSCSI lets you create a share on your LaCie 5big to mount on a computer in the same way that external hard drives are mounted when connecting to your PC/Mac. The LaCie 5big even lets you specify which services are active on which of the Ethernet interfaces. For example, use one LAN for iSCSI and the other for AFP/SMB sharing.
Dual Cooling for Long-Term Reliability
