The 1080p signal format used by Blu-ray Discs offers the highest image quality among high-definition video sources. The VIERA processor receives 1080p video signals in their original format. It applies optimum signal processing to output the same high signal quality. Image is dispplayed on HD Panel with 1024 x 768 resolution.
The processor converts SD and HD video signals from DTV broadcasting and DVD players to 1080p without loss of image details. It also applies progressive conversion to upgrade 1080i high-definition video signals to 1080p signals. This allows VIERA to render pictures that are more beautiful than the original. Image is dispplayed on HD Panel with 1024 x 768 resolution.
Panasonic's original Real Black Drive System and Deep Black Filter reproduce the deep, rich blacks that were inherently difficult to achieve due to the structure of the plasma display panel.
Maximum 16-bit video processing makes it possible to reproduce images with 3,072 equivalent steps of gradation. The picture noise and black blocking that occur with insufficient gradation is suppressed even in scenes with intricate detail, fine textures and subtle expressions. Even the most detailed parts of an image are rendered with beautiful smoothness.
Superb motion image display
Each pixel in a plasma display panel emits light. Compared to an LCD, which displays images by rotating liquid crystal molecules, the plasma display panel maintains higher resolution in scenes with fast motion. You'll love the clear, super-sharp images you get from VIERA when viewing action movies or watching football or cricket games, tennis matches, and other sports events.
When you view an LCD from an angle, you'll notice that the skin tones appear whitish. But with VIERA plasma display panel, colours look virtually just as good from a sharp angle as they do from directly in front.
Digital high-definition TV broadcast transmissions are based on a set of specifications called the HDTV Standard*. VIERA reproduces 100% of the colour range specified in this standard. VIERA reproduces images from digital HD broadcasts in their true original colour, with minimal colour shift. * Name of standard: ITU-R BT.709
This system controls multiple colours at the same time without affecting neighboring colours. By independently adjusting the colour hue, density and brightness, it brings out the full beauty and richness of every image.
This system maintains the imagecontours by adjusting each R, G and B dot, so it delivers smooth contour lines even at diagonal sections, where jagged lines are normally conspicuous on a large screen.
An HDMI cable carries not only digital video and audio signals, but control signals too. That means you can use your VIERA remote control to operate a DVD recorder, HD video camera and other equipment connected to your VIERA TV. For example, use your VIERA remote to control a timer recording operation with your DVD recorder or to start and stop playback of scenes from a video camera. With VIERA, extra ease and convenience are part of the entertainment package.
Use the VIERA remote control unit to operate your Panasonic DVD recorder. Press the VIERA Link button on the VIERA remote, select "Recorder" from the VIERA Link screen, then choose playback, or other functions from the menu. It's that easy.
Press the VIERA Link button on the VIERA remote, then select "Video Camera" from the VIERA Link screen. Now you can control play, stop, fast-forward and other functions using the navigation controls and playback panel.
For future expandability and ease of use,TH-42PX7A comes equipped with1 HDMI connector slot.
VIERA is equipped with a PC input terminal. Connect a PC that is also connected to the Internet, and you can surf or view content you've downloaded on VIERA's big, beautiful screen. For business users, the PC input lets you take advantage of VIERA's big screen and exceptional viewing quality in presentations and training programmes.
All VIERA plasma display panels are lead-free. This reduces the impact on the environment when recycling or disposing of them in the future.
With a plasma display panel, power consumption varies with the brightness of the displayed image. VIERA incorporates circuitry designed to use electrical power efficiently, according to the scene. This helps minimise power consumption and reduce your electric bills. Panasonic's care for the environment extends to manufacturing as well. For example, VIERA circuit boards are made using lead-free solder
The lifespan for both Plasma and LCD panels is dependent on viewing habits, but if both are watched for the same duration, one would expect the lifespan to be approximately the same, 60,000 hours, roughly twice the lifespan of traditional TV technology.
*Number of hours until the panel's brightness is reduced by half, based on operation in the standard mode with dynamic content. Does not take into consideration residual images (burn-in) or malfunctions.
