SS-500 5-Bay SATA/SAS Hot Swap Rack ModuleConvert 3x5.25

I have three of these in a system to create a RAID array, I purchased them all one at a time, the first two were sent back faulty with bays not working. Now a few months after I'm getting back into the RAID creation only to find the replacement unit is also faulty. The manufacturing on these is abysmal! Techbuy has replaced every one I have sent back, hopefully they will accept this one back too. I will try one last time with these. DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND!!!!!! I am a qualified computer systems engineer. All bays have been tested with multiple brands of HDD, Breakout cables and PSU's.

Cheap and Cheerful.

First one arrived with a 4/5 working ports. The port was providing me AHCI timeouts on FreeNAS. Also intermittently showed up on Fedora. RMAd and to my delight received a new one in 5 business days. First one I received had the old version with a flat backplane and stacked SATA ports. Second one I received had a recessed backplane (more room in case) and SATA ports in a line. To my knowledge this is the latest version. Both units run a ridiculously loud high volume fan. Unnecessary for my application (5x2TB greens) but useful for someone running something a bit faster(hotter?). Will end up replacing them with something a lot quieter. For the price it is a great entry level hotswap module and apart from the fan and the first unit there are no issues. Also very sturdy!
