What is a DDR3 Memory?

A DDR3 memory is a kind of RAM or Random Access Memory. This so-called RAM is a type of computer storage or your hard drives, except that it is smaller and faster. It was labeled ‘random' because you can access any data in any of its location in constant time. This makes it the memory responsible for the current memory that you're using for the programs that you are currently using.

DDR3 Memory – Which one do I need?

DDR3's are one of the latest kinds of RAM. Its predecessors, DDR1 and DDR2 have the same ranges of clock speed. The only thing which improved is the transfer rates which have increased by around 4000 to 6000 MHz.

First of all, you have to check the motherboard that you are using. Check if it has extra slots for additional RAMs. If there's not and you want to increase your RAM capability, then you might need to replace your existing one.

With regards to how much RAM you need, evaluate first your everyday computer applications, the operating system that your computer is using and the software that you are using and going to use. Some of those mentioned have minimum RAM requirements which need to be met in order for the system to function properly. If not, you will either get lagged results, ultra slow response or some of the applications may not even load at all. The safe RAM size is at least 2GB. To have a pretty decent operation, you may want to have 4GB installed. For gamers, photo enthusiasts and video editors, you might need a little bigger RAM than that to have a smooth work operation – at least 8GB.
